I am really torn on what to do. My husband and I own two PDs. Their names are Polymnia and Pearl. Polymnia passed away last week and is now waiting for us in heaven. Pearl seems to be pretty affected by the loss of her big sister, she seems to sleep alot more and chatters(grinds her teeth) alot more. I feel like she has to be out of her cage and with us all the time for her to be better. I wish I could be with Pearl all the time and we have made an effort to be with her more, but It doesnt seem like enough. There are also other factors that could be affecting her behavior, we moved her from our bedroom and into our living room where we are most of the time, so that is a new environment for her. Our living room is hotter, vents don't let out as much AC. She also has a slightly loose molar tooth but I think she had that before Polymnia passed. We have had to change her from her old food, Prairie Delight hay cubes, to Bunny Basics T. I dont know if I should wait a while to see if she adjusts and gets better, she seems bad enough that I worry if I wait too long to do something that she will just get worse and worse. One idea I have is to get another prairie dog, but Pearl is 8 years old, and then this whole process would just repeat. Also money is tight for us to have another. My other idea is that we should give her to someone who has other prairie dogs for her to interact with, to love and to cuddle with, her and Polymnia shared a bed and loved to snuggle. Doing this would absolutley break our hearts, but we have to do what is best for her. I would also worry about her new owner keeping up with her check ups, to keep an eye on her loose tooth. I'm at a loss, but I need to figure it our very soon. Any help would be so appreciated.
