It was nice hearing from you Elizabeth.
There are a number of reasons this could be occurring with your PD, diet,
caging, lighting (both natural and artificial), age, temperature (what I’m
referring to here is fluctuations in temp, not the 74 degrees you mentioned),
and more. Yes, you should be concerned about repeated occurrences of this and
if anyone here has questions about this or other issues they are always welcome
to email or call (sometimes email is a good start but interchange by phone is faster
and more effective). I would prefer you to call me on this one as I want to get
answers to a bunch of questions such as:
How old is she?
What’s her weight?
What does her daily diet consist of
including all treats (please give percentages of total quantity given daily,
e.g. 98% timothy or other grass hays - 3 handfuls, 2% treats of prairie delight
– 2 cubes, sweet potato – 2 nickel sized slices, etc.)?
Where is her cage located in your house?
Describer her caging environment,
including any toys for enrichment, what toys does she have?
Any prior health issues or meds
administered?
Is she an only child J?
How long is she alone (if she’s an
only child) throughout the day if people are working?
Does she get daily interaction out of the
cage and for how long?
There is probably more I’m spacing
on, but these are just the quick questions that come to mind. You are welcome
to answer by email, I check frequently but again we can be more thorough if we
discuss this by phone. Thanks and take care!

Subject: [prairiedog-6] hello,
hope all is well with your Prairie Dogs!
Just wanted to say hello, to everybody, hope all is well.
Sorry we haven't gotten together, but when I feel there is a good time, I'll
schedule one.
Feel free to give an update on your PD situations, and I did want to send out
this question, especially to Gena, but all could tune in.
Gena, My PD sometimes gets in these phases, where she sleeps in odd places, and
she's COLD. Like her temperature drops, and she feels like she just came out of
the freezer kind of cold. She lays flat and she's stiff. It takes some time to
get her warmed up and to get her moving around again, but then after a while
she's totally normal.
Is there something I should be concerned about?
She isn't by a draft or vent and the house is like 74 degrees.
Thought you could shed some light.
Looking forward to hearing from you. any of you. . .
